The Greening our Hospitals program included funding for water audits, improvements in water processing (including the reuse of steriliser water and high-quality water from dialysis use) and installation of flow-control valves for taps and showers.
Along with other water-saving activities by health services, the program contributed to a reduction in water consumption across the portfolio by 15.7 per cent between 2006-07 and 2010-11.
An independent evaluation of the program has been conducted and the summary is available.
A series of case studies have been developed that highlight different water-saving approaches applied throughout the program.
