About the Department of Health

The Department of Health works to keep Victorians safe and healthy and deliver a world-class health system that leads to better health outcomes for all Victorians.

We work across the health system to improve the health and wellbeing of Victorians, no matter who they are or where they live.

Our responsibilities include hospitals and health services, ambulance services, primary and community health, public health, mental health, alcohol and other drug treatment, and ageing and aged care.

We work with health services, healthcare workers, communities and government to plan, fund and deliver high-quality care and support. We also lead major reforms that strengthen the health system and help ensure it remains sustainable, connected and responsive to the needs of Victoria's growing and changing population.

Through investment in health infrastructure, workforce and digital innovation, we are helping to build a stronger health system that provides safe, accessible and person-centred care.

Our vision is to support Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
