The World Health Organization has described climate change as the defining issue for public health in the 21st century. It is an urgent challenge, with implications at global, national, state and community levels.

The department is committed to taking action on climate change and to supporting the community to stay healthy in a changing climate.

Climate change adaptation and emissions reduction

We are taking action to reduce emissions and support adaptation to climate change.

Climate change and health - community resources

The department has developed community resources, including animated videos, to help raise awareness about the health impacts of climate change and actions the community can take to stay healthy.

Public health and wellbeing planning and climate change

The Victorian public health and wellbeing plan 2019-2023 sets out a comprehensive approach to deliver improved public health and wellbeing outcomes for all Victorians. The plan includes tackling climate change and its impacts on health as one of four key focus areas.

Municipal public health and wellbeing planning and climate change

The department has developed guidance to support local government in addressing climate change and its impacts on health through municipal public health and wellbeing planning.

Healthy and more sustainable food procurement

The department has developed a policy template and guide to support Victorian organisations adopt healthy and more sustainable food procurement practices.

Sustainability in healthcare

There is a link between the health and wellbeing of Victorians and the health and wellbeing of the environment.
