Victorian Allied Health Clinical Supervision Framework

Key messages

  • The framework provides guidance, information, and tools to inform the development of processes and protocols which support and enhance allied health clinical supervision.
  • A series of online learning modules and supportive resources provide a sustainable model of clinical supervision training aligned to the principles of the framework

Introduction to the framework

This framework builds on the strength of existing allied health clinical supervision practices to present a consistent statewide approach with the aim of maintaining highly skilled and sustainable health and community services workforce; and to ensure clinical supervision is better understood, accepted and practiced.

The framework complements existing resources, such as the National clinical supervision competency resource, the Clinical supervision skills review tool and other guides to ensure a shared vision and understanding of the purpose of clinical supervision, to support high quality and safe patient care and allied health worker well being.

Training, supporting tools and resources

A series of five online Victorian Allied Health Clinical Supervision Training Modules support Victorian allied health workers to provide and receive high quality clinical supervision. To access the modules, please visit Victorian Allied Health Clinical Supervision ModulesExternal Link .

Supporting tools and resources have been developed to assist organisations with the framework’s implementation and are available for download at the bottom of this page. An organisational self-assessment and performance indicator tool assists organisations to review their performance against the framework and to identify areas for further development where required.

Clinical supervision agreement templates, and guidelines to assist the completion of those templates, have been developed to support establishing effective clinical supervision relationships. Additionally, clinical supervision record templates have been developed to support effective documentation and evaluation of clinical supervision.

These templates may be optionally adapted to suit the context of individual health services.
