The National Clinical Supervision Competency Resource

The National Clinical Supervision Competency Resource (the Resource) has been developed by the Australian Government to provide a benchmark standard for the skills, knowledge and performance expectations of clinical supervisors.

The Department has developed a range of materials to assist with the implementation of the Resource in Victoria. These materials include a Clinical Supervision Skills Review Tool that will help supervisors review their knowledge, skills and behaviour in clinical supervision. It draws on the Resource to define the requirements of clinical supervision at two levels: Foundational and Intermediate. The tool provides individual staff with information about their strengths in clinical supervision, and any areas that may need further development.

The Resource and supporting materials are available from Knowledge Bank

Clinical supervision resources

Knowledge Bank has a range of clinical supervision resources and includes materials developed by funded projects. Search by keyword (for example, ‘clinical supervision’), clinical training network or project, or just browse the resource directory.

Clinical Supervision Online, directed by the Head of Medical Education, Melbourne Medical School, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) accredited Category 1. The Clinical Supervision Online course aims to provide the understanding and skills for clinicians to create a learning environment within which their learners thrive. Drawing upon the Melbourne Medical School's popular Excellence in Clinical Teaching (EXCITE) award courses in clinical education, the focus is on what's most effective in the healthcare workplace.
