Training and development funding

Guidelines outlining the eligibility criteria, funding allocation methodology and reporting requirements.

The Department of Health provides training and development funding to Victorian public health services to help cover the costs of teaching and training that support the development of a high-quality future health workforce for Victoria.

There are different types of funding for teaching and training, including:

  • professional entry programs
  • graduate (transition to practice) programs
  • postgraduate programs
  • scholarships
  • continuing education initiatives.

Program guidelines

The 2025–26 Training and Development Funding – Program Guidelines have undergone a significant refresh to improve structure, clarity, and alignment with current workforce needs. Funded initiatives are now grouped under two main streams: general health and mental health.

The guidelines provide details on the eligibility criteria, allocation approach, and reporting requirements to assist health services in meeting the relevant funding conditions.

These guidelines should be read in conjunction with the department's Policy and Funding Guidelines for health services.
