An implementation guide for Victorian public health services

Key messages

  • Korin Korin Balit-Djak: Aboriginal health, wellbeing and safety strategic plan 2017–2027, is the department's 10-year strategic plan for Aboriginal health, wellbeing and safety that provides a way forward for increasing health career opportunities for Aboriginal people in Victoria.
  • The Implementation Guide is for public health services wanting to implement and deliver effective Aboriginal graduate and/or cadetship programs for nursing, midwifery and allied health workforces.

The Implementation Guide is provided in context of the Victorian Government's commitment to self-determination, access to culturally safe healthcare and other key policies, strategies and reforms that focus on improving employment opportunities and health outcomes for Aboriginal people, their families and their communities.

The Implementation Guide can be used to consider effective attraction and recruitment strategies for boosting Aboriginal workforces in health services including Aboriginal Health Practitioners and Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers.

The Implementation Guide includes work previously undertaken in 2015 by Monash Health in collaboration with St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, the Royal Women's Hospital, Latrobe Regional Hospital, Bendigo Health and Echuca Regional Health.
