Key messages

  • The Victorian Population Health Survey gives an annual assessment of the health status and wellbeing of adults living in Victoria and provides data for key population health indicators.
  • Maintaining data quality brought about by the uptake of mobile phone usage has led to improvements to the sampling frame in VHPS 2015 and 2016.
  • The Survey’s findings are used to inform evidence-based policy development and strategic planning across the Department and wider community.

The Victorian Population Health Survey has been conducted each year since 2001 and is based on a sample of adults aged 18 years and over, randomly selected from households from each of the eight health regions of the Department of Health and Human Services.

In 2016, computer-assisted telephone interviewing was undertaken between August and November. Please refer to the Methods section of the report for a more detailed description of the methods.
