Victorians will soon have greater access to free mental health and wellbeing support, with 7 new Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals set to open across the state.

These new services will build on the success of the 15 existing Mental Health and Wellbeing LocalsExternal Link , which have already supported more than 23,000 people to access care closer to home - without the need for a referral or Medicare card.

The new Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals will be delivered by existing service providers working in partnership with Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services:

  • Cardinia – Mind Australia, in partnership with Monash Health
  • Darebin – Neami National, in partnership with Northern Health
  • Maribyrnong – cohealth, in partnership with Western Health
  • Maroondah – Wellways Australia, in partnership with Eastern health
  • Mount Alexander (servicing Central Goldfields and Macedon Ranges) – Mind Australia, in partnership with Bendigo Health
  • Port Phillip – Wellways Australia, in partnership with Alfred Health
  • Wyndham – cohealth, in partnership with Mercy Health.

By engaging existing providers together with Area Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, we’re able to draw on their collective local knowledge and partnerships to bring services to communities sooner and with greater impact. This approach also enhances service quality, improves efficiency, and helps us maintain consistency with the model already in place.

The new Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals will each be linked to one of the existing 15 Local Services, benefiting from the Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals’ established networks and operational practices.

The rollout of these new services is an important step in delivering on the Royal Commission’s vision for a connected, responsive and community-based mental health system.

Services are expected to commence from late 2025.
