What the Royal Commission said

The Royal Commission recommends a Mental Health Implementation Office is created. It will be a new administrative office.

It will operate for two years and should:

• develop and publicly commit to a program of work. This will include reporting on its progress against outcome measures and targets through the Victorian Parliament.
• employ and commission people with specialist skills and diverse expertise. This should include people with lived experience, to respond to the Commission's recommendations
• ensure implementation of the Commission's recommendations stay true to the original vision and intent.

What are the opportunities?

The Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System published an Interim Report in November 2019. The report outlined 9 recommendations that provide a starting point for system transformation.

The Royal Commission recommended a new office lead the implementation of the reforms for two years. The Victorian Government set up Mental Health Reform Victoria in February 2020.

What are we doing?

As part of the Final Report's Recommendation 45, the Mental Health Reform Victoria office and its responsibilities were transferred to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Division of the Department of Health.
