Amendments to the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2017

On 18 November 2025, the Victorian Parliament passed amendments to the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2017. These amendments will take effect from April 2027 after an 18-month implementation period, unless otherwise advised. In the meantime, the current legislation applies and all information on this website is up to date.

Voluntary assisted dying is one end of life option among many and people should take time to consider all their options. It is important to be aware that accessing voluntary assisted dying requires considerable preparation and planning.
