Section 116 of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2017External Link requires a review of the operation of the first 4 years of the Act to occur in its 5th year, between June 2023 and June 24.

The Centre for Evaluation and Research Evidence is conducting the review, which commenced in July 2023.

The review will evaluate how the legislation has been implemented and its capacity to enable access for Victorians seeking this end of life choice. To do this, the review will evaluate the systems, processes and programs related to voluntary assisted dying.

As the legislated 5-year review is operational, it will not consider changes to the legislation itself.

Targeted stakeholder consultations will occur later in 2023 across different consultation formats.

After the review concludes in 2024, the report, including key findings, will be tabled in both Houses of Parliament.
