Victorian Pill Testing Service marks one year at Fitzroy site

In its first year, the Victorian Pill Testing Service fixed site in Fitzroy has supported thousands of Victorians with trusted information, advice and support, helping them make safer, more informed choices.

The free, legal and confidential service is located at 95 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

In its first 12 months, more than 3,000 people have accessed the service, showing strong demand for trusted health and harm reduction support.

More than 5,000 drug samples have been tested, and more than 2,500 conversations have taken place between service users and harm reduction workers.

For one in three people, it was their first opportunity to talk openly about drug use with a trained harm reduction professional in a safe, non-judgemental environment.

The service also contributes to community safety by helping people access accurate information about substances circulating in the drug market.

The service also issued 28 general drug notifications and two urgent drug notifications, warning the community about unexpected or concerning substances detected in samples.

Drug notifications help health authorities respond quickly and ensure the community has timely information about emerging risks.

The Victorian Government has funded the service for a further two years, ensuring both the Fitzroy fixed site and the mobile service continue operating across Victoria.
