How Smile Squad works

How to access Smile Squad

To make it easy for you, check-ups are at your child's school during school time. You do not need to attend with your child. However, if you wish to, we can make an appointment time for you to attend together.

Your child doesn’t need a healthcare card, Medicare card or the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) to access Smile Squad.

All you need to do is complete your consent form when you receive it from your school.

Oral health resources

Visit our oral health resources page for the Smile Squad parent information and 'Eat well, drink well, clean well' brochures.

These resources are also available in Arabic, Dari, Chinese (simplified), Chinese (traditional), Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Students with additional needs

Smile Squad staff are trained to provide services to children who have additional support needs.

Smile Squad staff will work with the school and parents/carers to understand and support each child's needs. Let us know how we can support your child by filling in the information on the consent form. You can also contact your school directly to discuss support.

Smile Squad can arrange an interpreter if required at no cost to the student or the school.

Quality and safety

All Smile Squad services comply with the highest safety and quality requirements.

Smile Squad is managed by Dental Health Services Victoria, the lead public oral health agency in Victoria. The Victorian Government funds Dental Health Services Victoria to deliver Smile Squad through community dental agencies.

Smile Squad is committed to the same high standards of safety and quality required of all public dental services. Smile Squad is accredited to all relevant National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.

The Department of Health works closely with Department of Education and Dental Health Services Victoria to make sure Smile Squad is delivered safely. Enhanced infection control measures are in place in all Smile Squad services to ensure the program is COVID-safe. All Smile Squad staff meet all COVID-19 guidelines, including staff vaccination.
