Tracheostomy is an old procedure with known life savings benefits, it does have these and other significant complications (haemorrhage, blockage, surgical emphysema, recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, oesophageal injury, bleeding granulations, tracheal stenosis), and some prove fatal.
