Registered medical practitioners, nurses, midwives and paramedics can verify death.

There is no legal requirement for the funeral industry to obtain written verification that cessation of life has occurred before moving the deceased body to a more appropriate location.

The guidance note and frequently asked questions for the Verification of Death were first drafted in 2010 to support the Coroners Act 2008External Link and have now been updated to include midwifery and paramedicine.
