Cardiac operations, such as coronary artery bypass graft surgery and heart valve repair and replacement, are performed at six public hospitals in Victoria. This report describes the characteristics of patients undergoing cardiac surgery in 2009-10 and in the previous four fiscal years. Over the five year period, cardiac surgery in all of Victoria's public hospitals remains consistent and safe. There are no statistically significant differences for the mortality rate or complications of surgery between hospitals or from year to year.
