The video opens with an outdoor shot of the Frankston hospital, with a voice over from Jesse who is an Advanced Laparoscopic Fellow at Peninsula Health.
Jesse: A lot of women come to our clinic and often feel very dismissed, especially women that were told in high school that pain with a period was just a normal thing.
Cut to close-up of Frankston Hospital with text on screen that reads: “Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue grows outside the uterus, often causing significant pain. It can lead to symptoms such as heavy periods, deep pain, bloating, fatigue and infertility, and can impact all aspects of one’s life.”
Cut back to close-up of Jesse who is sitting down in a clinician consulting room. She is looking at the camera whilst speaking.
Jesse: Last week, I had a patient come in for her first visit. And she came out after the clinic appointment, and she said it was the first time since her first period that they’ve been listened to.
Cut to B-roll of two women flipping through a brochure, showing only their hands. Jesse starts speaking.
Jesse: So being 38, and her first period was at 12, she’s gone over half her life being dismissed by healthcare professionals or people in the community.
Cut back to Jesse in a consulting room where she is performing an ultrasound, she starts speaking.
Jesse: We have for so long not listened to women, and now we finally are.
Cut to Jesse sitting down in a consultation room, looking at the camera.
Jesse: And we’re finding it leads into anything that affects your quality of life. Whether it’s pain that you suffer through to go to work with… or whether that’s pain that makes it unable to do your job, it’s all something important.
Slight pause and zoom out.
Jessie: If it’s painful for that woman, then it’s something that should be investigated.
The Women’s Health and Wellbeing Program logo appears with text that reads: “Bridging the gap in women’s healthcare.”
