Northern Health thanks volunteers

More than 400 Northern Health volunteers were among the six million recognised across Australia for their contribution to their local communities.

Northern Health volunteers provide ward trolley service, fundraising, pastoral care and chaplaincy services.

They drive patients from home to their medical appointments, guide patients and visitors through hospital, maintain gardens in ward courtyards and provide support to patients in the emergency department.

Throughout National Volunteer Week, Northern Health campuses hosted special events recognising those who reached significant milestones of five, 10, and even 40, years of dedicated service.

At Bundoora Extended Care Centre Joy Crompton celebrated 40 years of service alongside Jack Wall and his daughter, Kerry, both of whom celebrated 30 years of fundraising.

Banyule City Council’s Community Volunteer Awards included a Lifetime Achievement Award for Joy Crompton.

The Northern Hospital knitting guild’s Jean Matthison celebrated 35 years of service.

The knitting guild has raised $123,000 from its handmade keepsakes since its inception.

Five volunteers reached 10 years of service at Broadmeadows Health Service.

Fifteen new volunteers have recently joined, bringing the number to 71.

The recently-established Craigieburn Health Service volunteer program has five volunteers helping in various areas, including speech pathology.
