The friendly faces of palliative care

A photographic collage has been unveiled in McKenna House, Northern Health’s inpatient palliative care unit.

The unveiling marked Palliative Care Week.

The collage features the faces of the staff and friends within the unit who deliver palliative care at Northern Health.

‘This collage showcases the diversity of the region and the dedication of our staff,’ said Northern Health Chief Executive Officer Janet Compton.

A palliative care remembrance evening enabled relatives of former patients to remember loved ones.

Broadmeadows Health Service hosted stalls supplying information and educational materials from organisations linked to the palliative care sector.

‘Northern Health is committed to identifying and meeting the health care needs of palliative care patients and their carers and families and will continue to provide the most appropriate care to our northern community,’ said Ms Compton.

‘Palliative care is not just about providing end of life care but about offering support and treatment to our patients at all stages of a life-limiting illness.

‘We achieve this through a number of strategies, including the management of symptoms, psychosocial support and decision-making about future care,’ Ms Compton said.
