SRS work recognised

Her work in the private Supported Residential Services industry has earned the Department of Health’s Mary Chan a Public Service Medal in the Australia Day Honour’s list.

Ms Chan is the SRS Senior Authorised Officer in the Department’s Southern Metropolitan Region.

The role of the SRS Authorised Officer is to register and monitor SRSs in accordance with the Health Services Act 1988 and associated regulations.

Ms Chan was nominated for the Public Service Medal for her commitment to SRS residents and her diligence in mentoring other staff.

Through her work with SRS residents, proprietors, staff, the services system and strategic players she has created support networks that have improved the outcomes for people living in supported residential facilities.

Her work with colleagues around the state has led to the development of a high level of competence, particularly in rural areas where staff can be isolated.

Ms Chan’s background is in mental health nursing, a role that brought her into the public service.

For the past 13 years she has used these skills.

Her comprehensive knowledge of the health system has helped make a positive impact on the Department’s intervention with the SRS industry.
