Department of Health

The Department of Health and Human Services is funding the following three projects to prevent elder abuse.

1. The establishment of ten local elder abuse prevention networks

These networks are membership based groups of organisations including:

  • community groups
  • organisations or businesses that work with, or provide services to older people and others in communities.

The elder abuse prevention networks use primary prevention techniques to develop activities that work towards the primary prevention of elder abuse.

2. A statewide elder abuse prevention awareness raising campaign

The Victorian Government is raising awareness of elder abuse as an unacceptable form of family violence through diverse mediums to increase awareness across the state.

3. Development of prevention strategies targeting carers

Carers Victoria is developing and implementing a suite of materials and strategies targeting primary and secondary carers with the aim of preventing or de-escalating elder abuse.
