Carers make a valuable contribution to our community. They provide care and support to family members and friends with a disability, mental illness, chronic health issue or age-related condition.

Victoria’s carers are as diverse as the people they care for. Carers provide emotional and practical support for a few hours a day or around the clock.

The carer role can be hugely rewarding, but it can also be challenging. Carers can sometimes find it difficult to access services and supports to look after themselves and be supported in their care role, particularly as many do not identify as carers.

Giving carers the support they need is a key priority of the Victorian Government through the Recognising and supporting Victoria's carers: Victorian Carer Strategy 2018-2022 – the first whole-of-government strategy recognising carers.

Victorian Annual Carers Forum

Annual carer forums are held as part of the Victorian Government’s Victorian Carer Strategy 2018-22: Recognising and Supporting Victoria’s carers. The first forum was held in 2019.

The forum provides an opportunity for carers, organisations and government to engage about carer needs, provide feedback and learn about initiatives under the strategy. The next forum will be held in 2021.
