The Victorian Agency for Health InformationExternal Link , with the assistance of Safer Care Victoria, plans to collect patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) data on an ongoing basis from Victorian health services, including hospitals. They anticipate beginning with a pilot collection for a small number of patients and health services. A consultation period is now open for stakeholders and community to submit ideas about implementing the system.

What are PROMs?

PROMs are data obtained from structured surveys of patients’ views of their health outcomes. The data is different to patient experience surveys, which focus on patient views and satisfaction with healthcare services. PROMs convey information about patients’ views about their health and their health-related quality of life. They are particularly useful for telling us about a patient’s health outcomes that are best known to the patient, best measured from the patient’s perspective, or where a clinician is not present.

Consultation now open

We invite feedback from clinicians, health services and the community on how a PROMs collection should be implemented for Victoria. In particular the Victorian Agency for Health Information and Safer Care Victoria are interested in identifying:

  • PROMs collections planned or underway
  • health services, clinical registries and networks that wish to participate in the pilot collection
  • diseases and conditions to be surveyed
  • PROMs instruments to be used
  • how PROMs are to be collected
  • things needed to implement the collection and storage of data
  • risks that need to be managed in implementing PROMs.

Public consultation

We encourage you to email your ideas to the PROMs study group.
