The weekly infectious disease update for 6 December 2011 focuses on Q fever, a bacterial infection caused by Coxiella burnetti. A variety of clinical presentations of Q fever have been recognised. Q fever is a zoonotic disease carried by wild and domestic animals, most commonly diagnosed among abattoir workers, shearers, animal farm workers, and others involved in direct animal contact.
