Fluoride plays a crucial role in the prevention of dental caries.1 While some water supplies in Victoria have adequate levels of natural fluoride, most do not.2 The adjustment of fluoride in community water supplies has long been recognised as an effective method of preventing dental caries and is a major factor responsible for the decline in the disease during the latter half of the 20th Century.
