Victorian Health Incident Management System Minimum Dataset

Summary

The Victorian Health Incident Management System Minimum Dataset (VHIMS MDS) is a standardised dataset designed to collect clinical and occupational health and safety (OH&S) incidents, near misses and hazards. The purpose of the VHIMS MDS is to improve quality, safety and patient experience in Victorian public health services by providing standardised state-wide data to support monitoring and quality improvement.

These data must be collected in all Victorian public health services, and all services under their governance structure, including community health services and bush nursing centres. For further information on these requirements refer to the Policy and Funding guidelines, Safer Care Victoria (SCV) Adverse patient safety events policy and the SCV Clinical governance framework.

VHIMS MDS Manual

The VHIMS MDS manual provides incident reporters and users of the data with a complete dataset resource including:

  • definitions of data items;
  • information and business rules regarding data recording and transmission;
  • contact details for support related to the VHIMS MDS.
