Review of regulation of the health professions in Victoria – options for structural and legislative reform April 2005

In October 2002, the Victorian Department of Health & Human Services commenced a review of the regulatory framework governing the registered health professions in Victoria. This paper focuses on options for reform in relation to registered health professions only. The reform options under consideration can broadly be grouped into reforms to the structure of the regulatory model, and reforms to the provisions contained within the model. This paper has been developed to facilitate dialogue with stakeholders on the broad structural reform options. It provides a brief summary of the findings of the review and the views of stakeholders in response to the discussion paper, as well as: potential structural changes to the system that could be introduced to address these; and a series of proposals for reform to the model provisions that regulate health professionals in Victoria.
