Charter news

On 8 August 2019 the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care launched ‘My healthcare rights’, the second edition of the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights (the Charter).

The new Charter replaces the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights in Victoria.

It can be found at Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care siteExternal Link .

The second edition of the Charter includes three new rights reflecting an increased focus on person-centred care and consumer empowerment. The Charter now includes a right to partnership, information and provide feedback.

These rights apply to all healthcare services in Victoria.

Charter resources

The Commission has developed a range of resources to support the implementation and use of the Charter including a poster, an infographic for consumers about how to use the Charter, an Easy English version, Auslan video, large print, Braille and translations in 19 community languages.

All resources can be downloaded and found here at Supportive resources for the second edition of the Charter pageExternal Link .

The Department of Health and Human Services will not provide resources for the new edition of the Charter and will no longer provide materials from the old Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights in Victoria.

Health services and health care organisations are urged to access, utilise, and disseminate the Commission’s resources.
