Tender released for first Local Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Services

The Victorian Government today released the tender process for the first six Local Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing Services (Local Services).

Local Services will progressively open, with up to 60 services established across Victoria.

The first six Local Services will open in Benalla (inclusive of Wangaratta and Mansfield), Brimbank, Frankston, Greater Geelong (inclusive of Queenscliff), Latrobe Valley and Whittlesea.

The tender release marks an important step in delivering a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.

The new service stream is central to developing a responsive and integrated mental health and wellbeing system with community at its heart.

Local Services will ensure adults and older adults experiencing a mental illness or psychological distress can access treatment, care and support in their community and closer to their support networks.

The services will create a ‘front door’ to the reformed mental health and wellbeing system. They will connect Victorians to the care they need much sooner and in their own community.

The 2021-22 Victorian State Budget included $263.8 million to start work on the first 20 of the new Local Services across Victoria.
