A national recall has been initiated for chocolate egg truffles containing undisclosed tree nuts and gluten, Victoria’s Acting Chief Health Officer, Dr Michael Ackland said today.

The recall is for five batches of Heritage brand Belgian Milk Chocolate Egg with chocolate truffles in a 270 gram package.

“The batch numbers are M011, M012, M013, M014 and M016. The product is sold exclusively through Coles supermarkets,” Dr Ackland said.

“Consumers with an almond/hazelnut or gluten allergy or intolerance should not eat this product and return it to the place of purchase for a full cash refund.

“No other Heritage products are affected by this recall. The company initiated the recall and acted as quickly as possible to inform the department and other national authorities of its actions.

“Advertisements will be placed in newspapers as soon as possible. However, consumers need to know now that there is a problem with this product for people with allergies or intolerance to nuts or gluten,” Dr Ackland said.

The product contains almond and hazelnut and gluten which are not listed in the ingredients due to a labelling error.

“There has been no illness associated with the product as far as we know,” said Dr Ackland.
