30/10/20

Victoria has recorded four new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 20,347.

The overall total has increased by three due to one case being reclassified.

Of today’s four cases, two cases are under review by our Expert Review Panel after returning initial low positive and then subsequent negative test results. Two further cases are currently under investigation.

The new cases are in the local government areas of Wyndham, Brimbank, Hume and Greater Dandenong.

There have been no new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday. To date, 819 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

The average number of cases diagnosed in the last 14 days (16 Oct 2020 – 29 Oct 2020) for metropolitan Melbourne is 2.6 and regional Victoria is zero. The rolling daily average case number is calculated by averaging out the number of new cases over the past 14 days.

The total number of cases from an unknown source in the last 14 days (14 Oct 2020 – 27 Oct 2020) is two for metropolitan Melbourne and zero from regional Victoria. The 14-day period for the source of acquisition data ends 48 hours earlier than the 14-day period used to calculate the new case average due to the time required to fully investigate a case and assign its mode of acquisition.

The two mystery cases are in the postcodes 3081 and 3152.

Following a previous case associated with the Goodstart Early Learning in Plenty Rd Bundoora testing has been offered for all staff and students. All household members will also be offered testing and have been asked to stay at home while awaiting their results.

Yesterday, 117 people were tested at two sites. 63 cases were negative and 54 results are pending. More testing is scheduled today. All 40 primary close contacts linked to a positive case at the centre are being contacted by DHHS with instructions to quarantine and undergo Day 11 tests.

The Department of Health and Human Services continues to work to contain an outbreak of coronavirus in Melbourne’s northern suburbs with just under 30,000 tests processed from that area since Tuesday 20 October.

A total of 2,998 test results were processed yesterday, with a further 657 tests processed this morning from northern suburbs testing sites in the local government areas of Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Moreland and Nillumbik.
