Coronavirus update for Victoria - 23 November 2020

Victoria has recorded no new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, and there is one case that is currently active.

23/11/20

Victoria has recorded no new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, and there is one case that is currently active.

This is the 24th straight day where Victoria has recorded zero daily new cases.

The average number of cases diagnosed in the last 14 days (9 Nov – 22 Nov 2020) for metropolitan Melbourne is zero and regional Victoria is zero. The rolling daily average case number is calculated by averaging out the number of new cases over the past 14 days.

The total number of cases from an unknown source in the last 14 days (7 Nov – 20 Nov 2020) is zero for metropolitan Melbourne and zero from regional Victoria. The 14-day period for the source of acquisition data ends 48 hours earlier than the 14-day period used to calculate the new case average due to the time required to fully investigate a case and assign its mode of acquisition.

In Victoria at the current time:

  • One individual is a currently active case in Victoria, hospitalised in metropolitan Melbourne but not in intensive care
  • A total of 3,504,873 test results have been received which is an increase of 7,261 since yesterday

The Victorian Government will continue to monitor the situation in South Australia and will continue to be guided by the health advice.

A permit is now required to enter Victoria from South Australia unless an exemption applies. Permits are available from the Service Victoria website.

People who live in the previously established 70km cross-border bubble between Victoria and South Australia will not require a new permit, but they will be required to use existing permits from the South Australian Government, or their drivers licence to cross the border.

Those receiving or providing emergency medical care, providing or receiving emergency services or residing on a property that extends across both South Australia and Victoria will be exempt from the requirement for a permit.

People who have visited a SA high risk exposure site will not be allowed to visit Victoria unless an exemption is granted by the Victorian Chief Health Officer. People may make an application for an exemption.

Victoria Police will monitor and enforce the permit system through spot checks and DHHS Authorised Officers will meet flights at airports.

Testing continues to be offered in response to a positive wastewater sample in Altona late on Friday. The location of local testing sites is on the DHHS website and all people with even the mildest symptoms are encouraged to get tested

Residents can also get tested at a pop-up site in Point Cook. The walk-in site is at Featherbrook Reserve, 33-35 Windorah Drive, Point Cook, and will operate from 9am to 6pm until Tuesday.

Suburbs in the wastewater catchment include Altona, Altona Meadows, Laverton, Point Cook and Sanctuary Lakes.

Residents and visitors to Altona and surrounding suburbs from Monday 16 to Wednesday 18 November are urged to get tested if they have symptoms, no matter how mild.

Residents of Benalla and Portland and anyone who has visited those areas between 15 and 17 November are urged to get tested and to isolate until they get their test result.

Testing sites in Benalla and Portland are available at:

Benalla

  • Benalla District Health: 9:30am–6:30pm weekdays and 1.30pm – 3.30pm on the weekend

Portland

  • Portland District Health: 10:00am–4:00pm

We urge people to continue to come forward for testing in these areas.

In response to the South Australian outbreak, interstate truck drivers travelling to Victoria from South Australia are being asked to get tested.

Testing sites have been stood up at Nhill, Dartmoor, Edenhope, Nelson and Murrayville.

The Murray Sunset testing site on A20 National Highway, corner of Border Track and Sturt Highway, has closed. A new site will be opened at 1192 Sturt Highway, Merbein South at the Community Recreation Hall, which will be operational from 1pm today.

Information regarding COVID-19 is available at the Department of Health and Human Services website or by calling 1800 675 398. Testing site details are available at the Where to get testedExternal Link page.
