Coronavirus update for Victoria - 21 June 2021

Victoria was notified of nine new cases of COVID-19 yesterday.

One case is locally acquired linked to the current outbreak.

Eight cases are returned international travellers in hotel quarantine.

There were four COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria yesterday.

There were 54 active cases in Victoria - 28 are locally acquired and 26 are overseas acquired cases.

The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 20,694.

Update: Outbreaks

Yesterday, the Department was notified of a positive case within the Kings Park residential complex at Southbank.

The case is a Primary Close Contact who has been quarantining throughout their infectious period.

A strong public health response continues at the Southbank complex, including in-home testing.

There are currently 451 primary close contacts linked to Kings Park and its associated public exposure sites.

Of Primary Close Contacts connected to major outbreaks:

• 98 per cent linked to the City of Whittlesea outbreak have been cleared
• 98 per cent linked to Port Melbourne have been cleared
• 98 per cent linked to West Melbourne have been cleared
• 90 per cent linked to Arcare Maidstone have been cleared
• 26 per cent linked to Reservoir have been cleared

There are fewer than 1000 active primary close contacts across Victoria.

Almost 10,000 now-inactive primary close contacts have received a negative Day 13 test and have been cleared.

Anyone who has who has visited an exposure site during the specified dates and times must follow the advice listed.

The Department also manages a number of exposure sites that it doesn't publish online, particularly if these sites represent lower-risk exposures, if they have comprehensive record-keeping and contact tracing measures in place, or if they identify small, private locations.

Exposure sites are regularly reviewed based on intelligence and evidence, following case interviews.

Service Vic App check-ins

From Monday through to Sunday last week, 29 million people checked in on the Service Victoria app - compared with 21 million the week before.

Since May 1, 61.2 million check-ins have been recorded on the app.

207,784 check-ins were recorded through the Kiosk program, launched on 7 June, and 300,934 check-ins were recorded through the ‘add another' function, launched on 17 June.

On Saturday, some 2.4 per cent of all check-ins were via the Add Another function, allowing you to check in with someone you're at a venue with.

Almost 190,000 businesses, organisations and venues are now registered with the service.

Update: Travel permit zones

The Chief Health Officer has declared the following NSW Local Government Areas (LGAs) as orange zones under Victoria's travel permit system:

• City of Sydney
• Waverley
• Woollahra
• Bayside
• Canada Bay
• Inner West
• Randwick

If you are entering Victoria from these areas, you are required to obtain an orange zone permit from Service Victoria.

Orange zone permit holders must isolate on arrival, get tested, and stay isolated until they receive a negative result. Permit checks are in place for relevant arriving flights at Victoria's airports.

All arrivals into Victoria must apply for a travel permit at Service Victoria, even if you are entering from a green zone.

Victorian public health authorities continue to closely monitor the situation in NSW and QLD and will provide further updates as needed.

Update: Vaccinations

Yesterday, 10,921 vaccine doses were administered by Victoria's state-commissioned services.

This brings the total number of vaccine doses administered at state-commissioned services to 906,845.

Victoria's online booking system is now live at Book your vaccine appointment.

Individuals due for their second dose of Pfizer (three to six weeks after their first dose) are encouraged to book online today or call the coronavirus hotline.

Last week, 50,000 people reached the three-week mark following their first Pfizer dose - and 30,000 people came forward to receive their second dose.

This week, some 95,000 people will reach that three-week mark.

This week, approximately 40,000 people are booked in for their first dose of Pfizer, approximately 51,000 for their second, and over 10,000 for AstraZeneca. Walk-in appointments are also available for AstraZeneca.

Update: Testing

Yesterday, there were 16,290 tests processed in Victoria.

The Department publishes expected wait times at testing sites as well as updated information about locations and hours of operation at Where to get tested.

COVID-19 symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath and loss or change in sense of smell or taste. If you are experiencing symptoms, wear a fitted face mask when you get tested.
