The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Victoria is 1711, with eight new cases reported yesterday.

There have been no new deaths reported. To date, 19 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

There have been 182 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Victoria that have been acquired through unknown transmission. There are currently 47 active cases in Victoria.

Currently five people are in hospital, including one patient in intensive care. 1641 people have recovered.

Of the total 1711 cases, there have been 1422 in metropolitan Melbourne and 238 in regional Victoria. Several cases remain under investigation. The total number of cases is made up of 911 men and 800 women. More than 582,000 tests have been processed to date.

One of yesterday’s cases is a general practitioner who worked for several hours at three medical practices while potentially infectious. The doctor did not have any symptoms at the time and went into isolation immediately upon being informed they were a close contact of a confirmed case.

The GP worked at Lilydale Medical Clinic on 11 June and Cedars Medical Clinic in Coburg and Croydon Family Practice on 9 June. All sites are being appropriately cleaned.

The Department is contacting all potentially affected patients. As the doctor is asymptomatic, the risk of transmission is low, however if anyone is experiencing any symptoms they should get tested and self-isolate.

Six of yesterday’s cases were detected in returned travellers in hotel quarantine and one is a household contact linked to the Rydges on Swanston Hotel outbreak.

“Thanks to Victorians playing their part, staying at home and getting tested, we have made some great progress in slowing the spread of coronavirus,” Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said.

“Our low rate of community transmission means we have been able to ease some restrictions.

“You can have up to 20 people in your home or in a public place. Restaurants, cafes and pubs can have up to 20 customers dine in, and businesses such as beauty therapists can see clients again.

“Practice good hygiene - wash your hands regularly and cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow and try to avoid touching your face.

“Stay 1.5 metres away from anyone you don’t live with and avoid crowds, especially indoors. If you can keep working from home – you must keep working from home.

“And if you do feel unwell with any symptoms of coronavirus you should get tested. This includes fever, chills, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose or loss of sense of smell.

“If you attended the Black Lives Matter march in the city last Saturday there is currently no requirement to quarantine or get tested if you do not have symptoms. However, should you develop any symptoms, no matter how mild, it is critically important that you get tested.”
