Coronavirus update for Victoria – 12 July 2021

Victoria was notified of no new cases of COVID-19 yesterday.

This is the twelfth day in a row of no new locally acquired cases in Victoria.

There were three COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria yesterday.

There were 19 active cases in Victoria - 2 are locally acquired and 17 are overseas acquired cases.

The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 20,722.

Update: Interstate incursion - removalist

Late last night, the Department was notified by NSW Health that a confirmed case was infectious in the community in Victoria on 8 and 9 July.

The positive case entered Victoria on the morning of 8 July in a party of three for work.

They departed Victoria and entered South Australia on the morning of 9 July.

Households visited by the case for work are isolating and have been tested.

Interviews, which are ongoing, are proving complex and challenging. The Department is also using other methods of validation to determine their movement.

This afternoon, the Department was advised that another individual in this travelling party has returned a positive result.

Public exposure sites will be published as soon as possible once confirmed and validated.

Update: Interstate incursion - red zone arrivals

This morning, the Department was notified of two confirmed cases.

The cases are red zone arrivals from Sydney.

They reside within a household of four in the City of Hume.

One of the individuals who tested positive returned to Victoria on 8 July. The other members of the household returned on 4 July.

Both cases have initial negative tests after their arrival.

As red zone permit holders, they are required to quarantine for 14 days. Investigations and interviews are underway to determine their movements.

Other outbreak updates

98 per cent of the Primary Close Contacts linked to the Sandringham cases and the Virgin Airlines flight crew case have been cleared.

The Department also manages exposure sites that it doesn't publish online, particularly if these sites represent lower-risk exposures, if they have comprehensive record-keeping and contact tracing measures, or if they identify small, private locations.

Exposure sites are regularly reviewed based on intelligence and evidence, following case interviews.

Update: Travel permits

The Acting Chief Health Officer has declared all of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory a red zone.

This means the Victorian border is effectively closed to New South Wales and the ACT - except for Victorian residents returning on a red zone permit for 14 days of quarantine, and for people with exemptions, exceptions or other valid permits (such as specified workers and cross-border residents).

If you're a Victorian resident, you can obtain a red zone permit and return to Victoria - but you will be required to immediately isolate, get tested, and quarantine for 14 days. You cannot enter if you have COVID-19, any symptoms, or if you have been defined a close contact by a state health authority.

If you aren't a Victorian resident, you cannot enter Victoria from a red zone without an exception, exemption or other valid permit. If you try and enter at an airport or seaport, you will be fined and stay in Hotel Quarantine until return flights can be arranged. If you try and enter by land, you will be turned away and fined.

If you live in the NSW cross-border area, you can enter Victoria without a permit but you must travel with proof of address. Conditions apply. You cannot enter if you have been to a red zone outside of the cross-border area, or if you have COVID-19, any symptoms, or have been defined as a close contact by a state health authority.

If you are entering Victoria as a NSW cross-border community resident, authorities ask you to stay within the Victorian cross-border area at all times. If you are entering New South Wales as a Victorian cross-border community resident, stay within the NSW cross-border area. If you travel beyond this area, a red zone permit will be required for re-entry into Victoria. At all times, we strongly advise all Victorians against travelling to red zones.

Engagement teams, supported by Defence personnel, made 385 household visits to permit holders yesterday.

You must have a valid permit, exception or exemption to enter Victoria, even if entering from a green zone.

Update: Vaccinations

Yesterday, 12,005 vaccine doses were administered by Victoria's state-commissioned services.

The total number of doses administered through these services is 1,277,146.

General advice

COVID-19 symptoms include fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath and loss or change in sense of smell or taste. If you are experiencing symptoms, wear a fitted face mask when you get tested.
