Coronavirus update for Victoria – 8 November 2021

COVID-19 Data

Yesterday, 8,337 vaccine doses were administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services. The total number of doses administered through state-run services is 4,704,061.

93 per cent of Victorians aged 16 and over have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 85.2 per cent have had two doses. 92.6 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 84.1 per cent have had two doses. This excludes the most recent Commonwealth data.

There are 556 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria. 91 of those cases are in intensive care, with 54 cases on a ventilator.

Victoria was notified of 1,126 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. All cases were locally acquired. The 10 Local Government Areas with the highest number of new cases are Casey, Wyndham, Brimbank, Hume, Greater Dandenong, Moreland, Frankston, Whittlesea, Melton and Greater Geelong.

There are 16,178 active cases in Victoria. The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 98,130.

Sadly, the Department was notified of five deaths yesterday of people aged in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 1,182.

44,479 COVID-19 tests were processed yesterday. The total number of tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 13,777,569.

There are currently more than 77,700 active primary close contacts in isolation in Victoria.

Wastewater detections

COVID-19 viral fragments have been detected in wastewater samples taken from the following regional areas:

  • Stawell – unexpected detection for the period from 28 October – 3 November
  • Lorne – unexpected detection for the period from 31 October – 3 November
  • Mansfield – unexpected detection for the period from 28 October – 1 November
  • Aireys Inlet – repeated unexpected detections for the period from 24 October - 1 November
  • Apollo Bay – unexpected detection for the period 26 October - 3 November.

The detections could be an undiscovered new case or cases or could be the result of one or more people in these areas who have recovered from COVID-19 but are still shedding the virus.

Anyone who lives in, works in or has visited the areas above is urged to watch for the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms and get tested as soon as possible if symptoms develop.
