Victoria has recorded one new case of coronavirus since yesterday in a returned international traveller in hotel quarantine.
The new hotel quarantine case is in a woman aged in her 40s.
There are currently 10 active cases of COVID-19 in Victoria, nine of these are people in hotel quarantine.
All primary close contacts of yesterday’s new positive case in a teenage girl have tested negative to COVID-19. These primary close contacts remain in home quarantine and will be re-tested on day 11 of their isolation. All secondary contacts of the positive case are now cleared from home isolation.
The teenage girl, from the Moonee Valley Local Government Area, contracted COVID-19 after visiting several exposure sites on the Northern Beaches area of NSW. She developed mild symptoms yesterday and is isolating at home.
She and her mother travelled from New South Wales to Victoria by car on 18 December and made one stop at Oliver’s Real Food in Gundagai before arriving home.
We acknowledge that this family has done a fantastic job in following the rules, getting tested as soon as practicable, isolating and doing exactly what they needed to do.
There are no identified exposure sites in Victoria from this case.
There has been an excellent response to our call for testing over the past week with higher than expected numbers of people getting tested but with Christmas upon us, we are urging everyone to not let the festive season become an excuse for not getting tested for COVID-19.
COVID-19 testing remains one of the best ways we can keep people safe and stay open, so we're asking anyone with symptoms to come and get tested - regardless of the time of year.
There will be reduced capacity of some testing sites over the Christmas break until 2 January, including reduced hours for some Community Health Service-led testing sites
However, in excess of 60 testing sites will remain open throughout the summer break, including some sites open on Christmas Day.
Testing sites will also be operating in the popular summer destinations at Torquay, Lorne, and the Mornington Peninsula.
Testing site details, including opening hours, are available on the Where to get tested page.
Victoria’s border with New South Wales is closed and no one who has been in the Northern Beaches area, Greater Sydney or the NSW Central Coast from 11 December is allowed to come into Victoria.
Anyone arriving at the road border from those impacted areas will be turned away and will have to find alternative accommodation in New South Wales.
Victorians are strongly advised not to travel to Sydney as you may not be able to re-enter without undertaking hotel quarantine for 14 days.
There are currently 35 people who have been placed into mandatory hotel quarantine over to past five days because they have returned to Victoria on flights from Sydney without the appropriate exemptions.
The border restrictions are reviewed every day based on public health advice and we're working closely with NSW Health to monitor the situation closely.
Today is the 54th straight day where Victoria has recorded zero daily community transmission cases. There are no new deaths. To date, 820 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.
A total of 3,799,935 test results have been received in Victoria which is an increase of 22,956 since yesterday. Wastewater monitoring is continuing at more than 60 locations across Victoria.
As always, it remains vitally important that any Victorians with any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, stay home and get tested.
Further information about the wastewater testing program can be found on the Wastewater monitoring page.
