Innovation
Demand for clinical placements in Victoria is high and it continues to grow. Innovative approaches to clinical placement coordination and delivery can maximise placement capacity, ensuring that the state's ability to meet placement demand and train the future health workforce is strengthened. Such approaches may also have the additional benefits of increasing the focus on competency-based training and assessment models and increasing graduates' preparedness for entry to practice.
Health services and training providers have already engaged in significant work to build clinical placement capacity and maximise placement opportunities for students. New approaches have involved utilising training structures that reflect evolving service models, particularly interdisciplinary teamwork; restructuring rosters outside of standard clinical placement blocks; developing and utilising new audio-visual teaching resources; and exploring the potential for peer-to-peer learning and preceptor mentorship programs.
