DHS Portfolio Services and Strategic Projects Division (External site)
Policy and Strategic Projects Division provides a cross program focus for research, policy analysis and strategic planning to support the Departmental Executive. The Division has a responsibility for development of strategic priorities and policy direction for DHS, including service and workforce policy and planning.

Health Practitioner Regulation in Victoria
In Victoria, 11 health professions are subject to statutory registration. Each profession has its own registration Act, however most of the Acts have been updated to contain consistent registration processes, disciplinary and hearings functions and the establishment and operation of the relevant registration Boards.

Health Workforce Australia
The National Health Workforce Secretariat's site provides information on health workforce planning in Australia, the Australian health workforce, and the activities of the various national health workforce advisory committees that report to the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council (AHMAC) and Australian Health Ministers.

Health Workforce Principal Committee (HWPC)
(formerly Australian Health Workforce Officials Committee AHWOC)
The Health Workforce Principal Committee (HWPC) provides a forum for reaching agreement on key national level health workforce issues requiring government collaborative action and provides advice on health workforce issues to the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council (AHMAC).

Department of Health and Ageing - Workforce advice to medical practitioners
Information for medical practitioners on workforce issues, including information for Australian doctors wanting to study in the USA, and information on Medicare provider number eligibility for medical practitioners without postgraduate qualifications and overseas trained doctors.

Office of Rural Health (Australia)
The Commonwealth Government's rural health website for health professionals, service providers, rural communities and consumers. The Office of Rural Health (ORH) is part of the Federal Department of Health and Ageing and is part of the Health Services Improvement Division. ORH has responsibility for advising on general rural health strategies and for delivering a range of targeted activities to improve the health and well being of Australians living in regional, rural and remote localities.

Primary Health Care Research & Information Service (Australia)
PHC RIS contributes to improved policy and practice, by increasing the exchange of information about Australian general practice and primary health care research, evaluation and development between researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and consumer organisations. Australian policy makers, researchers, Divisions of General Practice, practitioners, consumers and other stakeholders, use PHC RIS information services.

NSW Department of Health

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is Australia's official statistical organisation. ABS assists decision-making, research and discussion within governments and the community, by providing a high quality, objective and responsive national statistical service.

AIHW - Labour Force (Australia)
This site provides information relating to the workforce in health and community services occupations in Australia. Information of this nature assists workforce planning, which in turn is critical to providing an adequate and suitably distributed workforce around Australia.

Recognition of Overseas Qualifications

Skilled Migration Unit (Victoria)
This is the website of the Victorian Government's Skilled Migration Unit (SMU). The SMU was established specifically to help skilled migrants make their move to Victoria as smooth as possible and prepare them for joining Victoria's workforce. They also help Victorian employers access a range of services to find skilled overseas professionals where suitable staff cannot be recruited or trained locally.

AMC is a national standards advisory body for medical education and training in Australia.

Australian Dental Council
The Australian Dental Council advises on the accreditation of education courses leading to a dental qualification, the assessment of the suitability for practice in Australia of persons with overseas dental qualifications, occupational regulation and uniform criteria for recognition of qualifications for registration.

Public Health Improvement Partnership (PHIP) (USA)
The Public Health Improvement Partnership guides the development and implementation of a plan for collaborative action to bring about improved health in all the communities of Washington State.

National Centre for Health Workforce Analysis (USA)
The National Centre for Health Workforce Analysis assesses the United State's supply and demand for a health care workforce and analyses the effect of changes in the health care system.

California HealthCare Foundation (USA)
The California HealthCare Foundation, based in Oakland, is an independent philanthropy committed to improving California's health care delivery and financing systems. CHCF tackles issues within the health care industry that impact workers that are key to the delivery of care.

Health Care Network Health Human Resources (Canada)
This site brings together materials addressing a range of health human resources issues, including physician supply, medical licensure, and mobility and training of health service providers.

Commission on the Future of Health Care (Canada)
An organisation working toward making recommendations to ensure the sustainability of a universally accessible, publicly funded health system, that offers quality services to Canadians and strikes an appropriate balance between investments in prevention and health maintenance and those directed to care and treatment.

NHS Human Resources Directorate Changing Workforce Program (UK)
The NHS Plan highlighted the need to look at new ways of working to improve patient care and ensure good use of skills. This in turn will help with the plans to increase staff numbers, by ensuring greater job satisfaction.

Healthcare Workforce Development Portal (UK)
This portal has been developed in partnership with Department of Health, Workforce Development Confederations (WDCs), Postgraduate Departments of Medicine and Dentistry (Deaneries) and Newcastle University. The site is aimed at providing information, support and development to WDCs, Deaneries, Strategic Health Authorities and the wider health community who are planning the future workforce of the NHS.

King's Fund (UK)
The King's Fund is an independent charitable foundation whose goal is to improve health, especially in London.

NHS National Workforce Unit (Scotland)
Workforce Development is about getting the right people with the right skills to be in the right places at the right time. It is crucial to securing the workforce for NHSScotland in the short, medium and long-term. It is integral to the successful reform of health services in Scotland and to the improvement of patient care.
