Order under the Food Act - semi-dried tomatoes
The Chief Health Officer has made an order under the Food Act. It is designed to prevent or reduce the possibility of a serious danger to public health, and to mitigate adverse consequences.

Regulatory Impact Statement – Proposed Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations
The Minister for Health, the Hon Daniel Andrews MP, has released a Regulatory Impact Statement regarding the draft Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations. Public comments about the draft regulations are invited. The closing date for submissions is 16 October 2009.
Policy and Funding Guidelines 2009 - 2010
The new Victorian Health Services Policy and Funding Guidelines 2009 – 2010 are now available. It provides, for the first time, a view of all of the health and aged care funding programs. The focus is to provide funded organisations with a more comprehensive state-wide view of all health funding and policy information from a single source and to provide a better resource for their business planning needs.
Parkville Comprehensive Cancer Centre
On 7 May 2009, the Victorian Premier, The Honorable John Brumby, MP, and the Federal Health and Ageing Minister, The Honorable Nicola Roxon, MP, announced funding for the construction of a $1 billion Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Parkville, Melbourne. Construction will begin in 2011, and be completed in 2015.

New food safety law for Victoria
The Food Amendment (Regulation Reform) Bill 2009 has been passed by Parliament. The changes to the Food Act 1984 will give Victoria a better system for regulating the safety of food sold for human consumption. The amendments are intended to reduce the compliance costs for businesses (including community groups that sell food) by allowing regulation to be better matched to the level of food safety risk. The changes are due to come into effect in three phases between 1 July 2010 and mid-2011, once all the steps necessary for local councils and the Department of Human Services to implement each major initiative are in place.
