Located at the Australian Drug Foundation, the Clearinghouse functions as a drug prevention network, providing easy access to information about a range of alcohol and other drug issues, and drug prevention. This site provides access to an online library, fact sheets and toolkits on various drug issues. Professionals and members of the general community can use the service as their first port of call for information from local, national and international sources.
Alcohol & other Drug Council of Australia (ADCA)
ADCA works collaboratively with the government, non-government, business and community sectors to promote evidence-based, socially just, approaches aimed at preventing or reducing the health, economic and social harm caused by alcohol and other drugs. This site provides policy and advocacy information, information on conferences and access to the National Resource Centre.
Community Alcohol Action Network (CANN)
CAAN aims to reduce alcohol-related harm in the community by addressing the social and cultural forces that encourage problem drinking. This site provides information about alcohol, CAAN’s advocacy activities, and invites the community to take action regarding the inappropriate sale and promotion of alcohol.
National Drug Research Institute (NDRI)
NDRI conducts and disseminates quality research that contributes to the primary prevention of harmful drug use and the reduction of drug related harm in Australia. This site provides information on NDRI’s research and publications.
National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC)
NDARC is a multidisciplinary centre which collaborates with medical, psychology, social science, other schools of the University, and with other institutions and individuals in Australia and overseas to undertake drug and alcohol research. Turning Point strives to promote and maximise the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities living with and affected by alcohol and other drug-related harms. This site provides information on Turning Point’s treatment and education services, research and publications.
Directline
DirectLine is the central 24-hour seven-day-a-week (24/7) telephone counselling, information and referral service for anyone in Victoria with an alcohol or drug related concern. Staffed by professional counsellors at Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre, DirectLine is free, anonymous and confidential.

The National Preventative Health Taskforce
The Commonwealth Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon Nicola Roxon MP, established the National Preventative Health Taskforce earlier this year. The terms of reference for the Taskforce require it to provide evidence-based advice on preventative health programs and strategies, and support the development of a National Preventative Health Strategy by June 2009.
The Taskforce's initial focus is on chronic disease caused by obesity, tobacco and excessive consumption of alcohol.
The Taskforce has now released its discussion paper entitled 'Australia: The Healthiest Country by 2020' and technical papers relevant to each focus area. The discussion paper and Technical Report No 3 'Preventing Alcohol-related harm in Australia: A window of opportunity', are attached below for your information.
