Victorian Drug & Alcohol Prevention Council

The Victorian Drug and Alcohol Prevention Council (VDAPC) was formed in December 2007 to provide expert advice to Government on alcohol and drug prevention issues.

The first meeting of the VDAPC took place on 5 March 2008.

The VDAPC developed a Work Plan between March and June 2008. The Work Plan sets the Council’s priorities for action for the duration of its term; December 2007 - June 2010.

The Secretariat, which has a staffing complement of four, provides support to facilitate the effective functioning of the VDAPC, and is located within the Department of Human Services.

What’s New

Victorian Youth Alcohol and Drugs Survey

The VDAPC has commissioned the Social Research Centre to conduct the Victorian Youth Alcohol and Drug Survey (VYADS). Four previous VYADS have been conducted in 2002, 2003 and 2004. The survey provides a valuable indicator of alcohol and drug use among young people and helps to inform VDAPC development of prevention strategies.

The Social Research Centre will be conducting 5,000 telephone interviews between September and November 2009 as part of this research program targeting both rural and regional Victoria and the metropolitan area.
