Committees

Ministerial Advisory Committee on Surgical Services (MACSS)

MACSS is a new committee that will provide advice and make recommendations to the Minister for Health and Department of Human Services on strategic policy issues regarding the provision of surgical services.

Advisory Committee to Elective Surgery Services (ACAES)

ACAES was established in 2000. The membership is representative of clinical and hospital management from metropolitan and rural health services, Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Division of General Practice and Australian Medical Association. The committee provides advice and makes recommendations to the Department of Human Services on priority issues relating to access of public hospital patients to elective surgery. The committee addresses issues relating to equitable access on a basis of need, development and effectiveness of access improvement initiatives, development of initiatives to deal with access to surgical specialities where waiting list issues are of particular concern and discussion of issues that arise at a Commonwealth level which may effect access to elective surgery in Victoria.

Managing Elective Surgery Special Interest Group (MESSIG)

The Managing Elective Surgery Special Interest Group (MESSIG) was established in 2003 and the membership is representative of staff from metropolitan and rural health services including the Elective Surgery Access Coordinators (ESAC) and other relevant staff working in elective surgery access. The group provides a forum for the dissemination of information across the health services in relation to waiting list management including patient scheduling, wait list auditing, monitoring of elective surgery activity and the further development of the Elective Surgery Access Service (ESAS).
