Overview

The Advanced workshop is designed for board members with previous health governance experience and training. It builds on participants’ governance experience, including clinical governance.

The Advanced workshop aims to:

• Further develop members’ understanding of their governance roles, particularly focusing on enhancing public sector context knowledge
• Assist members to optimise their health services’ strategic performance within the health policy context.
• Enhance members’ abilities to interpret and apply fiduciary duties in the health environment.
• Outline members’ responsibilities to monitor and address the safety and quality of clinical service delivery within their health service.
• Provide members with governance insight around the financial ’health’ of their health service.
• Strengthen members’ ability to shape financial and non-financial results and ask important governance questions.
• Deepen members’ understanding of how risk shapes reputation and how to shape stakeholders engagement accordingly.
• Assist members in strengthening the quality of board decision making and behavioral interactions, as well as the board’s relationship with the management team.
• Build on members’ existing governance knowledge in order to optimise their own and their board’s performance.
• Create a greater understanding of the complex health environment in which they operate and its impact on board direction setting.

Prerequisites: Applicants should have completed the Foundation workshop, workshops 1 and 2 (predecessors of the foundation workshop), or Australian Institute of Company Directors and have health experience.
