Boards of management

Page content: 2009 Rural health service board appointments | Regional public health services | Rural public hospitals and multipurpose services | Information for applicants | Further information and how to apply

Regional public health services, rural public hospitals and multi purpose services are incorporated public statutory authorities established under the Health Services Act 1988 (Vic).

Each agency is governed by a board of directors or board of management appointed by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister for Health.

Boards are responsible to the Minister for setting the strategic directions of rural public health care agencies within the framework of government policy. They are accountable for ensuring that rural public health care agencies:

  • are effectively and efficiently managed
  • provide high quality care and service delivery
  • meet the needs of the community, and
  • meet financial and non-financial performance targets.

2009 Rural health service board appointments

A general appointment round will be advertised in mid-January 2009 for appointment to the boards of regional public health services, rural public hospitals and multi purpose services, with appointments commencing 1 July 2009.

Suitably qualified and experienced persons are invited to apply for appointment to positions as part-time directors or members on the boards of rural public health care agencies. Those interested must have a commitment to excellence in public health care, and the skills and expertise to contribute to the governance of a complex health care organisation.

It is government policy that government boards and committees reflect the composition of the Victorian community. This includes appropriate representation of women, indigenous Victorians, young Victorians, and Victoria's culturally diverse community.

Separate processes and closing dates apply for appointments to the boards of:

  • regional public health services; and
  • rural public hospitals and multi purpose services.

Regional public health services

There are five regional public health services: Ballarat Health Services, Barwon Health, Bendigo Health Care Group, Goulburn Valley Health and Latrobe Regional Hospital.

Appointments to the boards of regional public health services will be undertaken centrally by the department, as for all public health services.

For information on appointments to regional public health service boards (including application forms), go to http://www.health.vic.gov.au/governance/index.htm

Rural public hospitals and multi purpose services

For appointments to rural public hospitals and multi purpose services, applications should be submitted to agencies. Agencies will short-list and interview applicants, and provide recommendations to the department.
