Rural and Remote Health

Rural and Remote Health is the only peer reviewed international forum for all rural health professionals. Hosted at Deakin University, Victoria, RRH offers on-line reviews, original research and other academic articles on all facets of rural health, including policy, education and clinical issues. Site users are invited to participate in a moderated forum on rural health issues.

The Australian Journal of Rural Health is a multidisciplinary refereed journal, and since its inception in 1993 has contributed to the accumulation of knowledge of rural health in Australia. The Journal aims to establish a national and international reputation for the quality of its scholarly discourse and value to rural health professionals.

The Journal of Rural Health, a quarterly journal published by the NRHA (USA), offers original research encompassing evaluations of model and demonstration projects to improve rural health, statistical comparisons of rural and urban differences, and mathematical models examining the use of health care services by rural residents. Summaries of recently published rural health research discuss the objectives, geographical focus, database, and methods and outcomes of the research.

Central Victorian Health Alliance (CVHA) Draft Service Coordination Continuum of Care -
Multidisciplinary Care Practice, Processes, Protocols & Systems
The CVHA Service Coordination Continuum of Care: Multidisciplinary Care Practice, Processes, Protocols and Systems is the culmination of collaborative work undertaken by staff of CVHA member agencies between 2001 and 2003.

The work has been refined over time, and together with the Service Coordination Tool Templates implementation and increased interagency collaboration the applicability of this work has been further realised.

The CVHA Service Coordination Continuum of Care - Multidisciplinary Care Practice, Processes, Protocols & Systems is available from the Primary Care Partnerships website.

Healthy Horizons

The health of Australians living in rural, regional and remote areas is important to all Australians. Health Services in these areas have long been vital to the identity of local communities. The health of people living in rural, regional and remote is varied. Health Horizons is a framework for improving the health of rural, regional and remote Australians. It is managed by the Commonwealth Dept of Health and Ageing.

The Australian Government and State and Territory Governments, through the National Rural Health Policy Sub-Committee of the Australian Health Ministers' Advisory Council (AHMAC), have worked with the National Rural Health Alliance (NRHA) to prepare a report on programs that contribute to the achievement of the goals in Healthy Horizons, titled Progress against the Healthy Horizons Framework for Improving the Health of Rural and Remote Australians.

The Burden of Disease

This site has been developed in response to a need for straightforward access to Burden of Disease estimates for selected areas /diseases/ age groups. Selections can be made from the range of options and the browser will retrieve the information in a form that can be printed or downloaded.

Not only numerical estimates are provided but also relevant text descriptions that aim to give meaning and assist in the interpretation of this new information. How the burden estimates were determined (methodology) and links to other relevant web sites for even more information are available at all times while at this site.
