Duckett Report

In 2001, the New South Wales and Victorian Cabinets jointly agreed that the two states would work towards establishing a single health service for the border region. The goal is to create an integrated health service to meet the current and future health needs of communities on both sides of the border.

In 2003, the Health Ministers for Victoria and New South Wales oversaw the signing of a heads of agreement involving the health services and departments. The heads of agreement proposed to advance the integration, by the Wodonga Regional Health Service and Albury Base Hospital working more closely with a view to establishing a single cross-border health service, and provided for a midterm review of progress towards integration.

Professor Stephen Duckett was asked to prepare this midterm review. The review looked at the issues associated with integration moving forward. The report, entitled Review of Progress of Integration of Hospital Services in Albury Wodonga: Recommendations for Moving Forward, has been used by both governments to work through the range of complex issues involved in establishing Australia's first cross-border health service.
