Infection prevention in the haemodialysis setting

A guideline has been developed that outlines a standard of care essential to minimise risk of infection for patients and staff of satellite dialysis centres.  The guideline is based on best available evidence. The guideline document, a suite of three information sheets for consumers, and a wall chart have been developed for use in the dialysis unit.

The need to develop a guideline for infection prevention was identified as part of the review – Renal dialysis: a revised service model for Victoria - 26 October 2004

The guideline was developed with extensive consultation with staff working in dialysis units, infection control practitioners and consumers.  It has been endorsed by the Maintenance Dialysis Advisory Committee.
