Overview

Legislation regarding the approval and use of standing orders in a health services was modified recently. This legislation is administered by the Drugs and Poisons Unit within the Drugs Policy and Services Branch of the Department of Human Services.

To assist in the uniform implementation of the new legislation VMAC is hosting a repository of standing orders. The standing orders detailed below have been submitted by Health Services who hold a Health Services Permit to Generate Standing Orders and who have undertaken the necessary steps to approve these standing orders for use in their institution. The aim of the repository is to share information with a view to developing standardization of procedures across Victorian Health Services and so improve the quality use of medicines.

The legal requirements for developing standing orders are detailed on the Drugs and Poisons Control website. Health Services must apply for a Health Services Permit to generate standing order.

Approved holders of Health Services Permits to Generate Standing Orders are listed on the Drugs and Poisons Control website.

For more information about the legal requirements please contact the Drugs and Poisons Unit on 1300 364 545.

Standing orders can be submitted to the repository by sending an electronic version to vmac@dhs.vic.gov.au.
